Facilitating Impact

Ensuring impactful use of your open data both within and beyond your organisation requires taking action to facilitate use. Activities that have had previous success include:

• The appointment of an "Open Data Champion" to promote the availability of open data and its use

• Hackathons and other developer-orientated events

• Innovation challenges and competitions, for instance the Open Data Challenge Series hosted by ODI and Nesta, or the Data for Local Environments Challenge hosted by the Industry for Data Partnership

• Seed capital to turn a small number of compelling concepts into startups as exemplars

• Business round-tables or other events of engaging potential business users with open data from selected organisations

• Capacity building and awareness raising to promote the re-use of data within your organisation
